We understand that 30% of people are too afraid to visit their Dentist for regular check-ups or treatments.
The main reasons for Dental Phobia include:
- unpleasant previous experiences at the Dentist
- fear of objects or injections in the mouth
- fear of the dental treatment itself
With over 20 years’ experience of dealing with every degree of dental phobia, you are in safe hands with us. We treat around 4,000 patients a year with the aid of Sedation and General Anaesthetic.
Nervous and Phobic Patients, Gentle Dentistry
As a Parkway patient you will benefit from our relaxed Dental Spa experience, but if you need more assistance, we uniquely offer nervous and phobic patients the option of local anaesthesia dentistry, sedation dentistry or general anaesthesia dentistry for all dental procedures, depending on suitability.
Do not put off your treatment due to fear. Find out about a gentle dental experience with the highest level of patient care. We have successfully treated many patients who would otherwise have avoided visiting the dentist routinely or in emergency circumstances.
Sedation dentistry is used to provide a relaxing and anxiety-free experience for nervous people receiving dental treatment. It may be the answer if you are reluctant to change the appearance of your smile because you are afraid or anxious about undergoing long or complicated dental procedures while totally awake. Sedation dentistry can make you feel comfortable with little memory of the treatment, helping you achieve a smile you can be proud of.
According to the Dental Organisation for Conscious Sedation (DOCS Education) 30% of the population avoids the Dentist due to fear. This “dental phobia” prevents people receiving necessary routine dental care, potentially compromising the health of their mouth and smile.
General Anaesthetic Dentistry
General Anaesthetic is suitable for many patients who, for a number of good reasons, are undergoing treatments requiring more than a Local Anaesthetic or Sedation. This may be due to the type of treatment, but is especially recommended for nervous and phobic patients who would prefer not to be conscious during their treatments. We are the only dental clinic in South West Wales licensed to carry out dentistry and minor oral surgery under General Anaesthesia and the only alternative to NHS hospital treatment, if this is required.
If you are unsure which method of sedation or Anaesthesia would be best for you, or if you have any concerns, our Specialists will be happy to speak with you. Both of these options require prior completion of our Medical Questionnaire with a discussion on the procedures and suitability for individual patients. Our primary focus is on a safe and gentle environment for your dental care. We will guide you through your treatments with a high level of care and attention.
You can be assured you will be treated with respect, understanding and compassion at all times - our skills and expertise mean you are in the best possible hands.
